I maybe able to help there. Do you have the part numbers for those brackets?
There are a bit of a mixture here and the P/No's can narrow it down to the correct ones.

Well, I got to see first hand today how much detail is going into this build, and I must say, it is coming along very well. I'm sure Tom will be along with a few pics and details of what went on today, so I won't steal his thunder.

I was also lucky enough to take The Grey Ghost for a spin around the block today, and I was impressed with how well it went for a car that old. The engine runs as sweet as a nut, and it hasn't had a thing done to it. It is the first decent drive of a Series in 15 years for me, and it really makes me want to get stuck into my Series III, but it will have to wait a while longer.

    Thanks for the drive

    Cheers - Gav.

    Update

    Hi All,

Well yesterday was certainly a BIG day, thanks entirely to Gav..

Firstly - a week ago I took my tub to the sand blasters, as I honestly did not fancy paint stripping the entire thing myself.
It was a Christmas present to myself - getting somebody else to strip the paint...
The main reason why I took it there also was because of the glue on the floor of the tub.

Here are a few before pictures:

The tub had the following stickers on the rear of it:

Silly question - I don't suppose anybody knows if I can get replacement stickers for these? I have had a look on the net but was unable to find anything. Worst case I will just have to re-design them myself.

Here is a picture of the tub, after coming home yesterday:

Unfortunately the main reason why I took the tub to the blasters (the glue on the floor) is still there... The sand blaster was unable to remove it... So it looks like I have hours of fun in front of me to remove it...

Once Gav arrived at my house the real fun started!

    Roger's heart is now out!

Note in the above picture the hole in the block... The Welch Plug/Core is stuffed, which was the main reason why I was taking the engine out.
So the plan is - clean-up the engine, replace all gaskets, welch plugs, re-paint it, replace the clutch (it does have some scouring and I might as well do it while the engine is out).

So I have plenty more work to do in the coming months!

Nuts/Bolts that held everything together (cleaning required here):

    Clutch:

    Starter Motor:

    Exhaust:

    Engine Bay:

So - not that I was running out of things to do, but thanks to Gav I have an absolute shed load of work to go on with!

I will post before/after pictures as I tackle each item...

I have heard sandblasting aluminium can damage it. Have you noticed any of it and how big of a sandblaster was used do you know?
Now that it is sandblasted I think you need to do more paint prep , well so i have heard anyway.
That must be some super duper glue on there, how do you plan on getting it off?

    solvent

I would try the solvent acetone on that glue residue, be careful as acetone is highly inflammable.

    Small Update

    Hi All,

Thanks Wrinklearthur - I did spot a tin of glue removal solvent at a hardware store recently. I will buy some of that and give it a go...

Landysmurf - I have no idea what media my local sandblaster is using. However it is very fine and pink/red in colour. I gave the sandblaster a small aluminium panel to test on, before I committed to using him for the ute tub. I was happy with the results. Yes I will do some more prep work before painting. As above I will try to remove the glue with a combination of a solvent and sanding.. Hours of fun!

Ok - unfortunately I have not done as much as I would like today, because chores never stop (as I am sure everybody on here knows!).. However I did manage to use "The Grey Ghost" quite a bit today:

Here is what I did on Roger. Starter motor (Before):

And after a few hours of cleaning:

It is interesting that a few of the digits seem to have been over-written. A mistake at the factory I assume.

I will do a bit of prep work and then paint the starter motor satin black.

    That's it for today.

Great stuff, Ghost. I'm sorry that the sandblasting did not remove that glue... That stuff doesn't look like it'll be fun to remove.

I thought the galv capping looked pretty good after the sandblasting. Are you happy with the finish?

    Cheers,

    John
