    Seat Box Fittings

I'm starting to re-furbish the seat box which I sourced from an ex-army vehicle as my original one had been completely bastardised to take a pair of bucket seats.

Can someone tell me what those two fittings are at mid-midfield? They are a nipple thingy (one of 2) and some type of rotating lever held in place with 3 pop-rivets.

Also, am I correct in thinking that hole to the left of mid-field is for a fuel tap? The army one WOULD have had 2 tanks, yes?

The nipple thingy is for the leather strap that holds the seat base in place and the other rotating lever holds the lid which sits under the seat base

    Centre underseat stowage tray.

    Hi,

You are fortunate to have the underseat stowage tray. Generally an optional extra, but fitted to military vehicles. (Two types - four and six cylinder - the six has a cut away section and a step at the front to clear the transfer case that is about three inches further back).

When no tray is fitted there often is a screwed on cover plate and the centre seat sits on it rather than a removeable lid for the tray or access to the transfer case area.

Regarding the hole - that is generally where the fuel tank changeover tap is fitted - later vehicles often have an electric switches to connect either tank to the fuel gauge.

    Thank you!

    This site rocks!

I've earmarked that box for a toolkit.

I have two 16 gallon (?) tanks with a lovely brass changeover tap that should mount in that hole.

To quote Hannibal from the A-Team: "I love it when a plan comes together!"
