    Series II What colour rims?

    I have a series 2a sitting in my shed, it's a swb petrol, very straight and original and I'm only the 3rd owner. 2questions, what color should the rims be? I've put some sunraysias on it with muddies to putt around the farm, but I have the original rims but they are painted black, would like to paint them up and put some original looking tyres on it, would 205/16 be close?
    And is there any way of narrowing down what year it is?
    Vehicle number 24301847a
    Another plate (ckd perhaps?) says 885521

    Not certain of the rim colour - probably body colour is my guess. If you sand back the black you may find the original colour.

    The suffix a on the number means it is an early (1847th) CKD swb - since the numbers started in 1961, this suggests it is probably 1961-2.

    Body colour or white were the official answers I received.

    LIMESTONE!

    Mine is the same year as yours.

    Roofs & wheels were Limestone according to my diligent "research".

    Hi Summitt. I was asking myself the same questions recently(there is a post somewhere?). I went with the lime stone and Michelin XZL. Bar treads look good and are available in the correct sizes but they are an awful tyre by todays standards on the road. XZL come in 750 16 which is one of the original sizes.
    I think they have that real 60's look

    Tim - there is a paint place in Fyshwick (opposite Ricks office) that did a computer search for me and discovered that, around that age, there were 2 limestone colours, one slightly yellower than the other.

    I have a couple of SWB diffs and wheels here that were original colour and they are the slightly yellow tint - so that is what I had them mix up for me.

    The label on the can says:

    LAND ROVER Alt: 0 3307
    LIMESTONE
    38505 VS:2
    L400 EUR BASECOAT
    Formula ID: 616360

    And the rest of the tin says DUPONT LUCITE 400
    Mixed Colour - Lead and Chromate Free

    Hope that helps

    Hi, up until about 1969 all swbs were body color, after that the yellow white/cream. LWB up until 67? were body color after that the cream. These are just observations I have made of the Series, unrestored farm vehicles, that I have seen in my area over the years
