    Jam Tin Brake Reservoir

    Damn!

    My jam tin showed no signs of leaking during the resto but has started after a couple of days on the road.

    A slow drip from the bottom.

    I know they are not available locally so I'm reluctant to rip into it lest it's unrepairable/split & I can't do anything with it. I can keep topping it up every 2-3 days.

    Well, as long as you're not too worried about changing from the original jam tin, I'm sure these would be fine. Nice tidy looking setup, actually. Alternately, you could change the clutch master cylinder to the later type with inbuilt reservoir and use the plastic Series III reservoir for the brakes.

    I've tracked it down to the union that bolts to the bottom of the tin. It can be tightened but it just turns so there must be a bolt head INSIDE the reservoir that is rotating.

    I can get a clean tube spanner down there.

    Does anyone know what size it is? The outside nut is an 11/16ths UNF.

    Not sure of the size but it may be worth removing the reservoir now to give the inside a good clean and also to check the sealing washers on the leaking union

    I borrowed a set of tube spanners.

    It's a 3/4 AF.

    Half a turn nipped it up & fixed the problem!

    I got mine for 35 pounds from lrseries.com to replace a jam tin.

    The bracket had to be filed out to line up with the pedal tower, which was pretty annoying, but otherwise fitted up fine. I like the fact I can keep an eye on my levels without opening up the tin and peering in. I'll upload some photos later if you want?

    From memory there is a flat rubber washer that seals the clutch fkuid tube from the brake fluid container outer. and it does perish so you may find it will start leaking again. Not hard to replace now you know the size I found with old 1s any disturbance like removing the pipes would start it off.

    are these reservoirs the same as a s1 but just with the extra hole?
