I think it may be more that the 4cyl and 6cyl gear sticks are different.
Hi All,
"The Grey Ghost" has suffered his first injury...
The gear-stick has broken off - and looking at it, it has already been repaired once before.
Luckily I have "Roger" my other project - and have swapped gear sticks over as a temporary measure.
Question - is a Series 3 gear-stick the same as a Series 2?
If not - does anybody have any Series 2 gear-sticks??
Here is the actual gear stick - top of picture, it is broken at the end:
Here is the top of the gear stick ball - broken:
Here is the bracket - with the gear box linkage:
I am assuming that I need the main gear stick, with the linkage attached at the bottom? My linkage is very worn...
As always - any help is greatly appreciated!

I'm reasonably certain that the gear sticks are the same in Series 1,2,2A 4 cyl, the 6 cyl gear stick is straighter (no bends) the Series 3 4 cyl is different to the 6 cyl variety, there are other minor changes like the reverse switch, but again I'm certain that all are inter changeable.
The crooked types as fitted to S1,2,2A look the best in those vehicles, the others look out of place, just my opinion, cheers Dennis
Pretty much as Dennis says. Major differences between 2a and 3 (and these changes may not have happened on early S3) are a nylon bush on the tip, push-on rather than screw on knob, and the actual shape - this only becomes critical if the governor/hand throttle is fitted to the 2a.
I think every Series Landrover I have owned has had a welded gear lever, although only two have broken while I owned them. Mind you, my 110 has also broken a gear lever!

Pretty sure I have a couple left kicking around pm me in a couple of days when I get back to the switch and I'll have a dig around.

If you've benefited from one or more of my posts please remember, your taxes paid for my skill sets, I'm just trying to make sure you get your monies worth.
If you think you're in front on the deal, pay it forwards.
There's 3 different shafts big bend (S2/2a) straight (???) and S3 bent but so much. only seen early screw on and S3 push on.
They always break at the worst time. Like at the top of spit rd hill in reverse when you want to go up not back down into traffic.
Just give both parts a good clean up with a grinder, taper the end of the stick off a bit to allow good weld penetration then glue it back on with a mig! Should last another twenty years, especially if you keep all the moving parts greased and every so often do a clean up and regrease them. Reefing hard on the gear stick or having to hit it hard to detent across for reverse when they are not well lubed is what takes it toll on them.
Cheers, Mick.

Yes. I find graphite powder very good, as it does not attract dust.
