Have you backed the shoes off with the adjuster? They may be catching on the rim of the drum. Sometimes drums stick to the face of the hub, so a few taps with a hammer between the studs will loosen it - put the nuts back on temporarily to protect the threads.
Springs will probably be available from Paddock, Craddock, or Four Wheel drives - Google the part no. I can't remember where the other end goes, but have a look around the crossmember for a small hole,
