Thread: 1968 Series 2A Rebuild

Looks like a very interesting project. A couple of questions/comments.

The colour and history suggest to me that it may have come to Australia with the German geophysical company Prakla Gmbh (now after several mergers/takeovers part of Schlumberger). I remember seeing one that looked similar in Qld in 1969. Do you know whether this is the case, or do you have any more information on its history?

If delivered in Germany, it will have had a number of differences to Australian delivered ones, including LHD. It would be interesting to note evidence of these during your restoration.

OK.

The feedback on this vehicle, was that it first went to Germany to SULZBACH ROSENBERG in West Germany in 1970. According to the chassis number beginning 262 it was a RH drive for export. It was then sent to some Zambian mission and the ended up in SA in 1971/2. According to the chassis number this a 1968 model.

It has different trim inside and the seats are a smallish type of bucket seat with contoured backs. It is fully upholstered including all the doors, roof linings and fully matted which is rare.

Will take about 5 to 6 months to complete the project.

That's what I said about Ralph. 5 yrs later I am almost finished.. Seriously though, nice truck.

The last Shorty rebuild took me 5 months!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This one has a bit more work so am estimating about 6 months.

Attached a picture of my last completed project. A 1961 Series 2 88". Was a hybrid 2/2A station wagon and converted it to a Series 2 truck cab.

Thats a beautiful shorty, 5 months i guess you must be retired, what part of SA are you located ?

Hi, yes I am retired and live on the South coast at Winklespruit about 60Km form Durban.

I have attached a couple more pictures of my Shorty recently completed.

Looks like a good wagon, with an interesting history

I wanted my 2a to take 6 months, it now been 8! work does seem to take up a lot of my time! Good luck with the build. It should be interesting for sure
