    What do these numbers mean?

    Hi all,

    i have found some old photos of when we started the rebuild of our landy.

    Does any one know what these numbers mean and why they are painted on the side of the motor?

    if they are significant i will get a stencil made to put them back on the freshly painted block.

    Is it ex army? There is a Royal Australian Engineer unit in townsville.

    as far as i know it is not ex army, i hope its not as this will throw our rebuild on its head

    the vehicle as far as i know came from a farmer in Maclean NSW. My old man bought it from him and now i have the family landy

    so far the numbers to me read:

    435F…. i can't seem to get the last paint mark

    There are plenty of possibilities. I have seen similar in ex-mine landies where they were removing and rebuilding engines all the time - swapping them between vehicles...

    As suggested, it is probably a number put there by a large organisation rebuilding the engine. Could be army, could be any other large organisation, either government or commercial, that is labelling a job to make sure that they keep the right engine on the right paperwork.

    The S1's often had a similar thing on their engines.

    Yes Scallop's SI engine had it, three numbers, I can't recall what they were.

    I'm pretty sure you will find it's something like a quality control number in the Rover factory, possibly the engine builders ID number.

    It has been on every engine I've ever taken back to the bare metal of the block.

    You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
