    No drive series 2A

A mate of mine has an ex military ambo,2A with 202 and high speed transfercase.
Tells me no drive at all, transfercase issue.Has tried 4x4 high and low and 2wd high again, wont drive.
    Any ideas please.

    Any noises?

Sure it is not a snapped axle?

If he is sure it is the transfer case and sure the lever is fully engaging (remove tranfer lever boot), then it is time to drain the oil and drop the t-case pan for a look.

The most likely cause is that there is a problem with the transfer gear selection mechanism, possibly the fork loose on the selector shaft.

But it coould be a broken output shaft in the gearbox. Removing the inspection cover on top of the transfer case should clear this up.

(This assumes that the drive failure is not due to a broken rear axle plus free wheel hubs in the front - check the prop shafts for rotation!)

If it has a Fairey overdrive, the most likely problem is that the drive dog teeth have worn off - symptoms same as broken output shaft on the gearbox, but far more likely.

I've seen a Series 3 gearbox behind a 202 with a broken mainshaft where it passes from the gearbox into the transfer case. Fairly uncommon, and it would have let go with an almighty bang. I've also had a Series 3 where the input drive splines on the Fairey overdrive were completely gone. And my father once had a 2A with a 2.8 Isuzu that ripped the centre out of the clutch driven plate!

    OK.
The landy is here now after a trip on a flatbed.
We have the inspection plate off the top of the transfercase. It seems there is no movement at all in any gear from the gearbox.I wonder if the input shaft of the gearbox has parted company with the clutch????
Mal was to remove the floor later in the day to see if we could see a bellhouse inspection plate,he had left due to the rain so not sure how he got on.
If we cant find anything the next move is to drop the transfercase/box.
Its got a 202 and high speed transfercase conversion. Its just had a head gasket done, purrs like a kitten.

The gearlever bracket is also a cover for an inspection opening on the flywheel housing.

Remember the top of the box can be removed in situ as well.

    Problem Identified.
Friction plate failure. All the springs have fallen out and the centre isnt conected to the plate anymore
Cheap fix as the pressure plate and flywheel are as new.Clutch had only done 15000km
