could be a difflock

Ok I am starting to pay attention what I have brought now. I was looking at the hubs on the front of the series 2a Landrover I am restoring. One side has, what I would consider a normal locking hub, similar to a MQ partol or hilux, but the other side has a bolt. Am i right in assuming the bolt locking hub is the original?? or is this a land rover thing (differnet locking hubs)?? Sorry, I have never seen one like it before.
Thanks for your help

A diff lock, really, very cool. I will try and get a picture posted. I have air lockers on my other diffs, that are not currently on the 4WD.Originally posted by incisor

My thoughts exactly. Landies had some pretty weird diff locks in their early years.Originally posted by incisor

Is sounds like an early Jac Mac Manual Locker.
I'll go and try to find a pic of my old car.

Here is a pic
They are common to a rear axle, but not to a front so i now doubt its that.
Some other wierd type of locking hub? Maybe its just busted

G'day I think you will find it's and early MAP type locking hub, ?English made in late 50's for Series 1 Landrovers and would fit the series 2 and 2A and any other L/r with coarse spline , it's definatley NOT a diff lock as suggested hope that has dampened your enthusiam too much cheers Dennis
G'day All
Thanks for the input, this site make it all so much easier to understand. I will get a picture tonight, I think it maybe just a hub engaging mechinism, it doesn't look like the picture.
I have spare diffs, diss housings and axles that have airlockers which I will put on the land rover.
cheers
Crazie
Looks like something you'd attach those street war implements onto so you can bust the other guys tyre in a duel or tear great gouges in the body work....
It looks exactly like my McNamarra Diff lock.
