Welcome to the forum.. As mentioned, the series 3 tray will fit.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.
Almost all body parts are interchangeable between Series 2, 2a, 3, with, at most, a few holes or brackets different. The obvious largest difference is the bulkhead between 2a and 3, but even there they are interchangeable if you also change all the related bits. (and a lot of body parts are interchangeable even up to current Defender, although often with rather more modifications)

I think the only visual difference between 2a & 3 tubs is the shape of the wheel arch which is more vertical on the front edge on the 2a.
( I have one of each in the backyard )
It is quite possible that they changed over time, not coinciding with the change from 2a to 3, or that one has been changed post production. Or that one is Australian made and the other British made (or two other countries) - even if the panels were supposed to be identical regardless of where they were made, I doubt very much whether anyone would have worried if the difference was where it did not fit against another part.

Go on 30t, build your tub with one sort of wheel arch on one side and the other on t'other side, see if anyone notices
My last MGB had a chrome outside mirror on one side and a black outside mirror on the other. Even with the top down (normal configuration) and people being told there was a difference, very very few people ever picked it up and never without a hint.![]()
