    Help with Identification - SIIa?

    Hi all,
    Been lurking a while and finally found one to buy for myself this week. Looking for some advice on ID'ing the beauty. The Chassis number/ ID plate says S3 but the body details are misleading me. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have already learnt so much from this place.

    Does the number on the tag match the actual chassis number on the chassis?
    If not it could have had a firewall swop at some stage
    Post the chassis number (on the chassis) and engine number here and the learned ones will tell you what it started life as

    The headlamps in the grille, wipers, vent openers and the instrument panel are Series II or IIa. The door hinges are Series III.
    Chassis number should be on one of the rear spring hangers.

    Correct chassis number will tell what it is. You have a 2IIa firewall front end with series III door hinges. Hang on it is plated wrong. that is a series IIa Firewall with a series III plate and a military as well Need the chassis number, left hand spring hanger to determine what exactly the vehicle it is.

    interesting one.


    Mines a series 3 109 petrol (truck cab) 913 09809B from 1974 so the plate on yours is a lot later at 94240C. The plate relates to a RHD CKD.


    Will be interesting to see what's on the Chassis.

    I haven't pick her up yet, so I'll post details as soon as I know more. He listed it as 1979 S3 Super petrol? Whats the super petrol about?

    Probably referring to the type of fuel it ran on...back when 'super' was available.

    At first glance two things are apparent: the brush bar (bull bar) and the map reading light and related switches on the dash - to the left of your gauges.

    These things of course can be bolted on over a period of years to a civilian vehicle. Hmmm like a complete firewall from another vehicle!

    The chassis number should be able to tell - if the chassis has not be swapped over that is!
