Hi all,
Slowly but surely things are coming along.
A lot of new activities and learning as you go ie..... door rubbers...what a hassle! The rivet holes rarely lined up, not very malleable.... After installing the uprights the doors struggle to close. Only after a liberal covering of rubber grease was I able to close the doors at all. I ended up taking the bottom seal off altogether. I'll revisit this at a later date but the doors certainly don't rattle anymore.
After installing the floors, tidying up the electrical components and dash it was time for the first extended drive around the block.....wind in the hair, smile from ear to ear...re-mastering my double clutch technique, up that hill, round that corner....full appreciation of every bump and dip in the road.....ahhh, life is just grand:-)....other than the bit where once the carburettor heats up and fuel start pouring past the throttle plate.....leaves you stranded on the side of the road realising you were so euphoric when you left you forgot your phone and......fuel starts leaks onto the hot exhaust!! I might have muttered a few expletives at the time.....anyway,
It seems that ethanol fuel is the nemesis of the Zenith 36IV Carburettor. After diligently restoring the Carbie, including the re-surfacing of the emulsion block and new rebuild kit, everything was not as well as could be once the unit heats up.
Firstly the float deteriorated and didn't "float"...which I can only surmise was the ethanol fuel? I bought another complete gasket kit as well as a new float form Classic Carbies (amazing these supplier are around!) and re-tried....... but the fuel leak problem persisted. The O ring just didn't seem to be doing it job, even the genuine one from the new kit. I even toyed with 2 o rings...but this was not a good solution. After a bit of research, I found the Permatex Fuel Resistant Gasket Sealant...spread that around the O ring and to date this has resolved the issue.

And tidied up a bit a tappet noise from the rebuild....

So, all running well...again.
I've decided I need hoops and canvas, so I also need the safety belt cross bar. and new seat belts...might have to be some christmas presents!
Cheers
