Congratulations on your new adventure. I look forward to see some pics and follow your progress. I can't answer your question sorry but I'm sure someone will. Are you restoring it to original?
Nathan.
Hi There,
Just bought a 1974 series 2 as a bit of a project, has a 3.8 V6 Holden motor strapped onto Nissan Cabstar 5 speed gearbox, in turn connected to the original LR transfers case.
Still a truck load of work to do, my first point of interest is the drum brakes, is there an easy conversion? Can you buy a kit or is it cheaper to buy a complete axel if so which axel?
No doubt going through this journey I'll have a shed load more questions, pick up is Friday, let the fun begin..........
Cheers Marty.

Hi Nathan,
Considering the time and effort someone has gone to get the vehicle to whee it is I am going to continue on with what has already been installed. The 3.8 V6 looks to be a very neat fit in the engine bay, however the previous owner stopped his progress at the installation of the commodore wiring loom and ECU from what I can pick up.
I'll know more when I pick up on Friday. I do know that an axel from a 109 has been installed in the front which has bigger brakes, however they are still drum brakes.
Has a series one radiator grill surround and a series 2/3 front wings so ends up with four headlights, bit novel and definitely not original. It is a shorty with a ute body.
I'll post pictures when I get some.
Cheers Marty
The grill might be a Series 2/2a with the Series 3 wings, this was an easy upgrade I believe and gave you better lighting in front.
Nathan.

						Hi Aaron,
I was going to discs, however how I have the vehicle home I can see I have significantly more to worry about than brakes right now. Nothing much is connected at all to anything either mechanically or electrically.
I am now going to get everything cleaned out and work on one thing at a time, connect the steering, install some brake lines and look at wiring in the V6 ECU to an ignition system. Figure out where the battery is going to go.
Where do Series owners get parts from? Simple things like a door handle......... a bonnet catch?
Cheers Marty.
There are many aftermarket kits for disk brake conversions for series LR's. Only 1 gives you the ability to retain the standard steel wheels if that's the lok you're going for - and it's Australian designed and made by a forum member here - Cookey. I've bought a kit for my resto, and I've driven a series 3 with them fitted - they work very well. Cookeys kit includes a fully matched master cylinder, dual diaphragm booster and matching wheel cylinders for the rear to give the proper biasing.
While it's not cheap, it is the ultimate dusk brake conversion.
You can replace the entire axles out of something else, but your track will be different if that bothers you - you will have to do front and rear to match.
Good luck with the resto - would love to see some pics of the V6 on the vehicle when you get a chance.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.
Hi There,
Find attachments, that is what it looks like right now, day one. Still a shed load of work to do. Looks like it is going to be fun.
Nissan 5 speed Cabstar gearbox with a Marks adapter to the original transfer case.
Need to find a wiring loom for the lights and instruments...........
Cheers Marty.

I usually start with Paddocks or Craddocks in the UK - Roverparts in Aus - but there are many others. Buying from UK = watch the postage.
cheers,
