Touching up an old engine with fresh paint

I'm doing seals, welch plugs, etc. rather than a complete rebuild to get the thing back up and running I am wondering if it's worth repainting the engine or if it's likely to flake off. It's got a good degrease but looks like this. Given it's a 2a would it have been admiralty grey rather than duck egg blue?

I'm painting mine in duck egg grey as I like the colour!
You can buy special paint that doesn't need a primer and will stick direct to metal.

This engine also wasn't touched internally as it was in good condition and running well. Front and rear seals, gaskets, etc were all changed and GG spent god knows how many hours cleaning it ready for paint. A good enamel will stick fine to the block as long as it is completely clean. All the alloy shown in the pics was buffed then clear coated.
