    What is this thing ?

See attached pic of this silver coloured rectangular box found behind the wiper motor cover.

Any clues on what it is would be appreciated.

    BTW, it's ex-army 109" GS.

    Thanks

I have a bulkhead from a s2a 1968 ffr that had the same box on it connected to the wiper motor. I was told it was a noise filter for the radio gear to stop the wiper motor interferance. So maybe thats what u have as well. Hope this helps.

Can see a need for an RF filter on an FFR, but a GS ??

It is, as suggested, a RF interference suppressor - a capaciotor across the power to the wiper, I suspect, to suppress interference from sparking brushes.

It may have been fitted to GS models because it (or even just its bulkhead) could have a past history of being a FFR, or simply because it had been found that a GS close to a FFR was interfering. (same way that all of them will have suppressive ignition leads, along with all petrol cars since the introduction of TV to Australia in 1956)

thanks guys, it wasn't connected to anything, but now that I feel around the back of it I think there are one or more connections.

    Presumably it's basically a capacitor ?

Also, my wiper has four wires, black, green, brown/light green and red/light green. I am pretty sure the single position wiper switch I have is not original, as only the red/light green and the green wires from the wiper go to the only two terminals on the switch. So the switch is single pole / single throw. The black wire is connected to earth, but the brown/light green wire is not connected to anything. Does this mean because I have the wrong switch, the autopark feature is not connected ?

BTW, when I say my wiper has four wires, I mean my wiper park switch has four wires, and there are only two wires going from park switch to wiper itself, a green and a red one.

    Cheers,
    John

Check the wiring diagram, but I don't think any Series 2a had two speed wipers.

My mid 71 wide light has 2 speed wipers. Off and " sometimes they work".
