Chops' 88" Wide Light

Everything looks ok - the fuel filter near the carby is an addition, and not a bad idea but I'd put it on the other side of the engine away from the exhaust manifold myself. The carby has some staining, but is probably fine - tighten everything up and I find it runs fine, just leave it IMO.

Again, with the oil leaks, tighten everything up, degrease and get the RWC - for the time and effort you'll go to trying to stop them, it's probably not worth it unless you want something concourse. Maybe the rear main if it's ****ing out but that's more to save the clutch than anything else.

Can't work out what that disk is... Need JD to poke his nose in, I'm sure if it was a factory item, he'll know.

When's it going in for the RWC? :)

Cold start light could be the cold start switch - it's a ground switch up near the thermostat held in with 3 screws. It comes on when the engine gets warm to let you know the choke is still on - not the other way around, so if you haven't had the engine up to temp it shouldn't come on anyway. There may be nothing wrong with it, but I've never seen one work correctly when they get this old.

The disc is the PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) valve. Anti pollution gear. I'd leave it. Maybe give it a clean.

Looking at it closer, I think it's missing a clip, which would explain the electrical tape.

I did wonder what that little switch thing was for, I initially though it was the temp gauge,,, I'll have to do some more reading of my manuals I have [wink11]
I'd best be finding or making me a little clip for that then [biggrin],,, I'm not a big fan of the tape [bigsmile1]

You may find just bad connections. With my Series I the rubber covered bullet connector sleeves had decomposed and the rubber was between the bullet & the steel casing ? Never understood how that happens but replaced the the connectors with PVC covered ones, cleaned up the bullets and all OK.
Wipers could be bad connections or congealed grease which is a common problem.

My cold start light works fine on the Series I .....

Mick just beat me to the PCV, just followed the connections in the pictures and worked it out.

If you need globes let me know, there is a place locally where I can get Narva globes at trade (box of 10 for about what you pay for 2 at SuperCheap !!). Let me know the part number Globes - Products - Narva

Mick is right. It should have a clip as shown. The diaphragm under the plate will cause all sorts of issues if damaged (they split), and the oil leaks suggest either leaky plumbing in the PCV system, or it is not working properly and there is excess pressure inside the engine, or possibly there is excess pressure from cylinder blowby. Or possibly it is just the rocker cover gsket leaking, which may simply be due to the rubber washers under the rocker cover bolts having gone hard (or missing)

If that is the case, John, would it be better to get a more modern PCV valve from Supercheap and replace the old one?

The only thing that goes wrong with the valve is the diaphragm, and they are cheap, and you don't have to modify anything.

PCV valve is a common item. Google it. There are lots of plastic ones for various vehicles. I was thinking one of those could be used as a replacement.
