    New Bumper doesn't fit

    Wise Ones,
the replacement ( 2nd hand ) bumper I bought for my 1963 2A 88 petrol doesn't fit. It is about 10mm to wide to fit over the chassis rails. The old bumper was pretty badly beaten and had been trimmed to fit onto the chassis. The width between the rails doesn't change from the front cross piece (under the radiator) to where the bumper sleeves on. Any one else had this problem? from factory? Not a major concern and will trim bumper sleeves to fit, just intrigued.

    Nothing is easy...

It could be a few things... Possibly the car has been in a bingle (especially if it’s an ex farm vehicle) or your replacement part isn’t factory OEM. I am guessing that the part may have come in blue packaging?? After restoring 2 Series II’s - I have discovered that many of the “pattern” parts don’t fit that well... Hello from Brisbane.

The bumper, assuming that it is the same one that I supplied, came straight off my 1975 88” and was the original part fitted when built. Never bingled or straightened during its service life.

Genuinely surprised that it didn’t fit. The new one that I replaced it with went straight on.

Better post up the measurements of the outer to outer and inner to inner bolt holes on both the bumper and your chassis dumb irons so that others can measure theirs to see if the culprit can be isolated. I could measure mine, but obviously they will be the same as those on the bumper now.

    Cheers,

    Neil

    Hi Neil,
not suggesting it was your bumper, as the old one had been adjusted to fit, but the chassis measurements are about 10mm out from the specs I found online. It will look good once on just wondered if anyone else had the same as the chassis seems ok.

740mm and 650mm apart centre to centre of the bolt holes

    Hi Neil,

That’s interesting - the original bumper doesn’t fit but the new one does! My experience is that the Landy’s are not mm perfect - maybe the pattern parts are to blueprint and the originals are “close enough” ! New Bumper doesn't fitNew Bumper doesn't fit

    Hello again.

Must have been a misunderstanding here. Actually both the old and new bumpers fit my trucks’ chassis as is. The original was presumably sourced by Rover - the replacement was NOS sourced from Melbourne a few years ago.

The problem at hand seems to be on the new trucks’ chassis dimensions if I have it right.

    Cheers,

    Neil

    Nick,

Hello again - I hadn’t taken the OP as criticising the bumper that came off my truck. Rather, a bit surprised and just passing the comment that both that one and the replacement fitted my 88” without the need for modification.

Simply keen to find out where the discrepancy was coming from - bumper or chassis?

    Cheers,

    Neil

    Neil,
I am guessing the chassis but there is nothing obvious. Might put the jack between the end sections and see what happens.

    Thanks Russell,
the main problem I have is the bottom tabs on the bumper will not go between the hangers and will need trimming.
Just another annoyance, don't even get me started on the brakes......
