Interesting find in old workshop manual

Stumbled across this old newspaper(?) clipping in an old workshop manual I bought. Pretty simple solution to a problem I haven’t heard of before? Anyone done this mod to their old series? The front input shaft has a slight leak on mine regardless!

Also another piece of paper was with it, from a workshop discussing engine conversions with maybe a member from the Land Rover Owners of ACT, dating back to the 70s, I’ll try upload a picture of that too.

I am pretty sure that this was the suffix A gearbox as the suffix B had roller bearings instead of a bush on reverse
I heard they were reversing over a couple of km up steep hills to create the problem

quite a novel way of giving the gearbox more oil to leak out though

mods.jpgmods1.jpg Here are a couple from my S1 workshop manual . The 1st at the bottom of the page is a modification to the dip stick to lower the oil level in the gear box to stop oil leaks . The 2nd at the top of the page is a modification to transfer case by adding a level plug to lower the oil in the transfer case . I did these modifications to my 80" it reduced the oil leaks by 80%.
Sorry that it is hard to read but book is old ( like owner ) & won't sit flat on scanner.
