Help - I am looking at buying a `S2' 1961 Land Rover lwb

    Hi
    I am a long term D2 TD5 owner

I been looking at fixing up a Series 1 or 2 LandRover - Upgrading!

Saw one for sale - that I thought looked in good shape and very fixable

I was wondering if I could email some photo's to someone who is knowledgeable (much more than me!) about its condition, the serial number and rough value - before I take the plunge

anyone willing to spend 10-20mins looking at a couple of photo's?

    I would really appreciate it

    Thanks!!

    Nobby

    bit more info....

    motor looks ok
but this is from Vendor ...

"The motor is not seized but has no compression on 1 cylinder I put a battery in it and it turned over as you would expect I gave it a sniff of aero start and it sounded like it might start I decided to fill the radiator before proceeding and quickly found the water was getting into the sump I drained the sump Potentially it may only be the head gasket gone but it may be worse I have access to diesel motors and parts etc This series 2 was 1 of 3 which I bought It was local to this area having been bought ex govt in the 60s:"

    any thoughts appreciated!

Nobby, I'll be in Beachport Friday and the following Monday and perhaps Tuesday (27, 30,31 October). DaveD2 will be with me. We can take a look at the car for you if it's within cooee of Beachport/Robe area.

I wouldn't be relying on it being a head gasket, sounds more like a crack in the bore.

That is a great offer - but the S2 is up up North of Adelaide! I will have to trailer it down!
I can send you some photo's via email (if you pm my your email address - I have a few good shots of it)

If I was in Robe/town (Up in Adelaide this week just left Robe yesterday) I would have had a beer or 2 with you in the Cally!

    cheers

I guess whipping the head off is easiest way to check??

if its a crack in the bore = new block?

    cheers

So its a diesel - I read they are a wet sleeve motor - so is a cracked block repairable - or best to start again - or put just put a Petrol motor in ?
    it is a S11 not a S11a - checked the codes

    cheers Nobby

Either that or check the dipstick/ sump for coolant.

These guidelines used to be in the 'Four Wheel Drives' (that mob in Melbourne) catalogue.
