S2a brake pipe configuration - photos needed

Hi all, would anyone be able to quickly post a pic of their Series 2a brake/clutch pipe configuration at the pedal boxes. I can’t remember which are the inlet and outlet ports on the brake and clutch m/c’s, and only have one Landy now so nothing to reference to. My brain is telling me that the port at the end of the m/c’s are the outlets, but pics online show both ports used as outlets by different people??!! Pics from several members would be good (hopefully they all show the same thing).

    Thanks in advance,

    Matt

I don't think you need photos - the problem is there are two different master cylinders fitted.

    1. CV type. Identified by the outlet pipe (closest to the pedal) is at an angle to the inlet pipe.

    2. CB type. Identified by a large hexagon "end cap" on the end of the master cylinder. Both pipes are parallel and the outlet pipe is furthest from the pedal.

Edit. The clutch is identical to the CV type, except it is a different size on the 109.

Hi John, I’ve got the CV m/c for the brake (see pic) The manual confuses the situation as it has the rearward port as the outlet for the brake and the forward port as the outlet for the clutch (see pic). Perhaps it doesn’t matter which port is used for which?

    Cheers,

    Matt

That is a page from the parts manual I believe. Certainly it is not in my workshop manual, but looks identical to the one in my parts manual.

And the problem is that the diagrams in the parts manual, while often useful when used in conjunction with the workshop manual, are only intended to be sufficiently accurate to allow parts to be identified, and then only in conjunction with the parts listing. And in this case, both the master cylinder and the pipe have multiple entries in the parts listing according to the wheelbase, number of cylinders, and chassis number. (I have spotted other similar errors in the parts manual before. But I don't worry about them, as it is a parts manual not a workshop manual, although it can help with things like the order in which bits assemble. But you always need to keep this proviso in mind.)

Having said that, the diagram as published is definitely an error in drawing, but it was not corrected, I suspect, because it is not to be used other than for part number identification.

And yes, it does matter which port is used for which! Obviously (if you think about it) the inlet port is not going to generate any hydraulic pressure when you push the pedal, otherwise it would tend to blow the lid off the reservoir.

    I hope this helps.
