    Minor Problem (well, fairly minor)

Yesterday I developed an issue with my 2a. In the last few days, it has done a lot of running around with the fire. Yesterday afternoon I went to a meeting at the local hall, to hear the latest. Not really worth going, as they told us nothing that was not on the web. The only real use was talking to the RFS people there - none of them locals - the locals were on overnight.

But I noticed the RH back tyre looked a little soft, so this morning decided to check tyre pressures. All down a bit (deliberately for soft going), but found the RH back was a bit too soft.

Then moved over to the other side. The LH front wheel was covered in oil - and the free wheel hub was about 6mm out from the hub, and only attached with one bolt out of six. This presents a problem. The bolts are 5/16"BSF about four inches long. But need to have 9/16"AF heads (or they could be socket head), as there is not enough clearance round them for a BSF head. Anyone got any ideas? I can make them by rethreading suitable UNF bolts, but it is fairly fiddly to do.

What I have done is to remove the free wheel hub, and put a standard hub on with a new gasket. I'll do the other side when I get a chance, although I am not certain I can find another hubcap in good shape. But I'll leave that until the fire is out. It has the hubs locked nearly always anyway.

Short term, can you share some from the other side? Plug the holes? I know it's not ideal, but.... If the local to me bolt shop could help I could post some to you, or my local indie would have some, as he has a number of wrecks.

I think I know the freewheel hubs in question, I sold a set a while back.

I'll have a look in a few boxes of bolts tonight but as that length was probably only used for those freewheel hubs I don't hold out much hope.

A bolt shop would probably be a waste of time, most wouldn't have heard of BSF thread.

Classic fasteners have them at 4" long but standard head size, expensive at $8.80 each plus freight.

Yes, that is the problem, the non standard heads. The actual length is 3 1/4". I just measured it. I thought they were a bit longer.

The hubs are Warn. In my experience one of the better ones.

Are the bolts 3/8" rather than 5/16" ?
I've found plenty of the standard hub bolts but I think there is a set of warn hubs that came on my Series I. One hub was damaged so they were removed, I just need to find them.

Yes, I think you are right, they are 3/8". And yes, I have plenty of the standard bolts. And drive flanges, although I am not sure about hubcaps that look respectable - I found one for the one I changed.
