I have a perfectly good series here, no one wants to buy it, if a wrecker offers the right amount it'll go.

A few years ago I spied a S IIa in a metal merchant, he wanted $1000 to part with it.

    Guess what my answer was?

They're cars not puppies, but if you want to adopt another one there are heaps in the marketplace.
I think my point is if they keep mulching the only "heap" will be at Simsmetal.
Your proabably right though Dobbo . Call me a bleeding heart but I just can't bear to see them mulched.

Thanks. Hmm either aluminium has gone down (unlikely) or we only got $1.50/kg for ally. But what I definitely do remember is the price was the same even though the panels had paint and bog on them - which makes an old series even more valuable!!!

A series would easily have 3/4 tonne of steel ($60) - including engine, axles, gears - and 200kg of ally ($300).

    • Aluminium $A3.09/Kg ($3090.00/Tonne)
    • Copper $A9.36/Kg ($9361.59/Tonne)
    • Steel $A616.77/Tonne
(Although that is the metals in ingots not as scrap.)

An example is todays spot price on scrap steel $A169.21/Tonne

So even if there is only a 1/4 ton of scrap aluminium in a Landy and assuming a scrap value 1/4 the price of ingot it would still be worth $195.00

So don't park your project on the street looking like it is abandoned.

Ingot price is alot more, the prices I have are for scrap.

Copper I am probably out as it has been a while since we sold some scrap copper.
We scrap alot of aluminium & steel at work.

Prices are based on what we get around Bankstown.

And Simmsmetal have never been one to hand over all the dollars that they get for scrap from the Chinese. The worst of all were Smorgon Steel when they had a depot in Nowra. They wouldn't get a set of scales for large items so you either gave then the scrap for nought or you had to go and get a before and after weighbridge ticket at $24 each. Takes the profit out of any recycling. But is good for their bottom line.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Wish I was getting $9 a kg for copper. Time to find me another scrappie. More like $5kg clean and $1.50kg for insulated.

    Cheers

I recently got $180.00 for a smashed up SWB ute back, seatbox & front guards.

Kept all the seatbox latches, gal trims & things, even though I don't need them I am sure they will come in handy one day...............

Thinking back, I got pipped at the post for a Series 2 on Ebay about 5 months ago by a scrappy.
Had a nice straight ute roof & a few other bits I wanted at the time, sold for $190.00.

I contacted the scrappy with my interest in the roof & bits, he said sure for $200.00 I could take the roof & bonnet.
Didn't collect it, dirty cheap mongrel...

Can we give an infraction to Dobbo for "lack of a LR soul" ?
