    Seat belts yes or no

G'day everyone, I am about to take my 1966 109" for rego in QLD. The last landy i had was 1968 model I registered this one in 2001 and had no worries about it not having seatbelts. Have the rules changed since then, I am just trying to save myself 2 trips to the inspection station.
    Cheers
    Jason

The rules that applied at year of manufacture apply so if it was never fitted then none are required.

However I would fit them for safety sake - but not required for rego.

    G'day OliveDrab

I have my 1968 GS on full rego without belts and have since 92, as far as I know the same rules still apply, seat belts were not required in commercial bodied vehicles in Qld until 1/1/1972, so as your vehicle is 1966 it would not have been fitted for belts and would not have had seatbelt mounting locations fitted to it, and the seatbelt law is not retrospective, also the vehicle pre-dates ADR's they were introduced in 1972

    cheers

If you are going to fit them for extra safety then do it after it has been inspected. Otherwise it will need to be certified as a modification and be properly engineered which could be a big hassle. Mind you though, a lot of the blokes doing RWC's wouldnt have a clue whether it should or shouldnt have them and would probably pass it anyway.

I would fit them for safety even though they are not required - but I query whether they would need to be engineered, as they were optional from the start of Series 2 production in 1958, and use standard parts, same as Series 3.

In any case, it is very unlikely that inspectors would query seat belt installations in a vehicle that age as they would have no idea whether it was that way originally. As noted, it is pre-ADRs.
