Hi all ,
I am trying to find out about the origins of my 1970 2A LWB .
Firstly ( I assume ??? ) that the Land Rovers came out to Australia as complete chassis's or as CKD's ( complete knock down kits ) and assembled at either Enfield or Zetland's Leyland plants ??
Only reason I say that is due to the Rover plaque from Solihull ( UK ) with the chassis number and then a smaller plaque from the " Pressed metal corp. " in Sydney who I assume made the body ??
The numbers on both plaques are different . Can somebody please clear this up for me .
Also I think that the selling dealer was " Annand and Thompson in Newstead , Brisbane as the sticker is on the dash ?? Were they a Land Rover dealer up north which I believe is where my Landy came from .
It has a Athol Hedges " monotop canopy " which I am led to believe that they did few bits and pieces for Land rover and are also in Brissy.
Any info would be greatly appreciated .
It would have been assembled from a CKD kit by Pressed Metal Corp. in Sydney. Their numbers do not match the Rover numbers - I think they are simply a sequential number for the vehicles they built.
Annand and Thompson were the main Queensland dealer, near Breakfast Creek in Newstead in Brisbane. Unlike elsewhere in Australia, Annand and Thompson at that time fitted the Athol Hedges hardtop rather than the Rover one.
