    help with chassis number

how dodgy is the stamping on my 2A

    Q. how many digits should be in the number?

i picked up my 2A today, no rego sticker, on the receipt the guy has noted the following chassis number
    Q1NVAAA71Y023

the best i can make out is

    VAAA71Y023
the zero is stamped above the Y and the 2 and it looks like they forgot it first time around, there are a couple of marks before the V but i can not make them out

    thanks

That looks like a VIN, not a Series 2/2a Land Rover chassis number at all. Perhaps it is one of the VIN allocated by the RTA when they couldn't find the original chassis number.

Check the RHS front spring hanger instead of the usual LHS rear spring shackle bracket!

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

That is a number assigned by Qld government when they could not find the number, probably because they didn't know where to look. It should be stamped on the chassis somewhere - heaven knows where though!

Series 2a built in Australia should have their chassis number stamped on the LHS rear spring shackle bracket.

Series 2a built in the UK have their chassis number stamped on the RHS front spring hanger (below the bumper bar).

All this is dependent upon their not being any chassis repairs that have obliterated or removed the number.

Yes - but that is where the factory stamped it, not Qld Transport! I know about this because my 2a has a number assigned by NSW RTA because they could not find the number - and their number was stamped on the chassis above the RH rear wheel. But that does not mean that Qld Transport would use the same location! It could be anywhere.

you need to "find" a replacement chassis that is BER (beyond economical repair). There is bound to be a rusty one around somewhere with a legable chassis number
