In Qld, you should not require any engineering provided it is built to manufaturers specs (where appropriate).

OK learner-ed friends...
Blkknight said just buy a ex DCA 109 ...I have one..I think
how do you tell if you have a 1ton series 3 vehicle if the chassis number is unreadable?
Mrs hh:angel:
It has extended spring hangers with only 1 hole (BTW that's front of front and front of rear spring hangers), they are 6 cylinder or 4 cyl diesel powered and they should have a low ratio/helical transfer box. If you look at the flange in the PTO hole, it should be slightly domed without the usual indentation of the regular flanges. It would have (originally) 9.00 16 tyres on 6.5" wide rims (which appear to be almost identical to the rims on my FFR)

I'd be really surprised that your vehicle there was anything other than a SIII V8 (called Stage 1) in this country.
They have a curved top of the transmission hump which could easily be described as "floor looked nothing like a normal series".
They are a 109' wheelbase the same as SII, SIIa, and SIII long wheelbase.
I'm confused again. You want to use the 1 Ton transfer box and have a couple of overdrives to build into one!
Can you also build me a couple, I have a number of 1 Ton/helical boxes and would dearly like at least I to have an overdrive. But unfortunately, until you came along no-one, not Fairey-Mayflower Engineering, not Toro and not Roverdrive had made an overdrive for the helical box.
Compared to the people in this thread, I know nothing. I may be barking up the wrong tree, but does this help. It does have a helical gear, doesn't it?

O.K. You learn new things every day. Have just spoken to the 1 Ton enthusiasts in the U.K and the 1 Ton do have two positions for the suspension mounts. So in fact a 1 ton chassis is exactly the same as an Australian SIII military.
The fact that a SIII 109 has a 1 Ton/military chassis doesn't make it a 1 Ton. Only the rest of the bits particularly the 9.00 tyres and helical transfer box but most importantly a 1 Ton VIN make the vehicle a 1 Ton. Everything else is a replica.
