well now I'm not sure if I can get the overdrives to fit, not going to get bent out of shape though :) all this info is great. Anyone with a s3 with a 6 cylinder and aus/mil chassis thats in decent nick, closer to the north side of brisbane than Bundaberg :) want it drivable as I need to get it on the road asap for work.
G'day nick b :)
Just to make things a little bit more confusing, the Australian Military Series 2a also has the 1 ton chassis, as a matter of fact it as from the Aust Mil 2a chassis that Solihull put the 1 ton into production, by adding the 2a/2b forward control lower ratio gear & transfer box and the F/control R569204 rims
The rolled edge bonnet(deluxe) was only fitted to the Station Wagons in Aust unless supplied as a special order (at added price) to other models.
cheers
Yep that is a helical gear.
All original series transfer boxes have helical gears on the high range, they have cross-cut gears on low range. That is why the 1 Ton/Forward control box is called an all helical box because it has helical gears on both high and low ratios.
The overdrive in your image is for a standard series transfer box, it is easy to identify because of the length of the nose. This is to replace the mainshaft constant gear, which meshes with the high ratio gear on the intermediate cluster (which is on the gearbox side of the transfer box).
The nose of an overdrive for an all helical transfer box would be about 2" shorter because the mainshaft constant gear meshes with a third gear on the intermediate gear cluster.
have been looking on the forum for where most guys get there 9.00 R16 tyres from but most posts are old 2008 etc anyone know of any instock :) and what tyres are you running in this size? Thanks heaps!
Same usual suspects. Same choice.
Nothing apart from price fluctuations is any different.
Although Michelin XZLs were available for the last person who needed some.
Have you found the 569204 rims yet?
Any tyre store that is prepared to get them in for you. Last time I spoke to them, Michelin had eight in the country and the company who imports Alliance would have some new stock by now. There was another brand recommended to me recently MRF.

Haven't found a set of rims yet :( suitable base vehicle that is local to where I am based in decent condition is even more difficult (not like 5 years ago when guys where giving them away in good nik)
Sorry to continue to sound sarcastic, however I rather suspect that the rims that were being given away (in any nick) would have been anything other than 1 Ton rims - (Part number 569204) yes I believe that you may have found 120" rims and even 543384 or even 569203 rims, but rarely 569204.
For your info.

BTW the early 120 rims are not shown - will have to update the image. They are the reverse of the 127 rim shown.
Sorry to confuse Lotz-A :) ment actual vehicles not rims, I even gave 2 (Series2 and S3 Landies) away in better condition than what I have been seeing for good money. Guys have left them all in the weather for years are the only ones I have found esp with 1ton spec chassis ex Army spec or there to far away. Will just have to be patient i suspect. on the rims side of things found 2 stage One models but nothing else so far :) are the DEF130 rims the same spec?
