Series III 1 ton 109 Need

So if Someone (qlder) needed and wanted. mainly needed. A series 109 One Ton Land rover, do we have any localy? or do we have to import one, or Modify a Local s3 109 6 cylinder model and put it through machinery to Land rovers specs.

Secondly does anyone have a list of the parts required?

    How readily available are they?

    Please help

AFAIK there was only ever 1 Land Rover 1 Ton imported into Australia. That was a private import and happened in 1974. I last saw the vehicle was in either 1978 or 1982 at the Ampol petrol station on the north end of Alice Springs and would dearly like to find that particular vehicle today!

Even if you acquire all the bits it will only ever be a 1 Ton replica and never a 1 Ton Land Rover.

Depending on which point in 1 Ton production you wish to replicate, you need are:
    1. A SIII 6 cyl 109 ex-military GS vehicle/chassis.
    2. A 1 Ton front Salisbury axle assembly (or ENV for SIIa or....)
    3. A SIII 1 Ton transmission with all helical transfer box (or 1973-77 South African production SIIB transmission)*.
    4. 5 X 569204 Land Rover 6.5" X 16 rims.
    5. 5 X 9.00 X 16 tyres.
Then you just swap over the parts onto the ex-mil Land Rover.

    Diana

    * for the transmission, you could always acquire a 1 ton mainshaft and then the transfer box constant gear, PTO hole cover/pinion bearing, intermediate gear cluster and output gear sets then rebuild those into your SIII transmission.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

    forgot about that!

Yes you will need the 1 Ton steering box. Heavy little item to import from the UK. (You can probably import just the steering box internals and build them into the orignal SIII housing.)

The 1 Ton's also had the non-dished deluxe bonnet with the rolled front edge, which were not used on the Aus Mil Land Rovers, but you should be able to find one on a 109 wagon.

Nice looking 1 Ton touring Scotland!

Is it possible to buy (like you can a chassis wing to repair a chassis) the chassis parts to weld onto a s3 chassis.

You are talking about significant suspension attachment modifications. You could fabricate them but you would want to start with a square chassis and then being very careful about aligning everything and then making excellent welds.

Remember the recent event of a UK enthusiast who modified his landy, a suspension mod broke and he ended up drowning 3 of his stepchildren.

Much easier to start with a Australian military SIII chassis that has the lower suspension points in the right place for the 1 Ton suspension. In fact apart from the upper suspension locating holes on the Au Mil chassis they are identical chassis.

anyone have a spare one laying around

other option is to buy a gal 1 ton new chassis from the uk but there worth an arm and an apendage.

all is very feasable just want to keep cost to minumum and do all the work myself and quickly as it will be my work truck hence why its a need.

    Why?

Military SIII have 1 ton springs!

Also, if you import the chassis, you will need an import licence for a 1 Ton VIN, otherwise you may not be able to register it here.

Where will you get the 1 Ton transmission? I have one of the very few of the SIII 1 Ton transmissions in the country.

I want the springs to articulate like Ben's (Isuzurover), instead of just thinking about bending, may use airbag assist airbags to help when theres a load.

was thinking may have to buy the parts for the Tranny setup, want low revs on the highway but the low range to be still very low ratio. if its to exy may have to import an atlas setup.

Need to avoid spending money like the plague, hence why setting up the springs myself and getting them reset to save costs.
