What need to be done with the inlet manifold assuming extractors were fitted?
They bolt together so I assume you have to replace or modify the standard inlet.
My 76 petrol SWB had standard emissionised Zenith with Perry extractors and a "sports" mufler - read free flowing. It ran somewhat larger diameter Armstrong Tru-Trac tyres on Sunrasia rims. Sat quite happily at 100k and was quick enough off the mark to scare a few people ocassionally.
A holden stromberg with a variable jet would probably make better performance also. Though your motor might be a bit more tired than mine was back then.
A new exhaust system should be a relatively inexpensive fix - I assume you can still get extractors to fit.

Nothing needs to be done with the inlet manifold. The two bolt together but the hole is in the exhaust manifold as it is used to heat the inlet manifold.

Yeah, as Timj said nothing needs to be done. The inlet no longer gets heated by the exhaust but here in Aust generally pre heating the fuel didn't seem to be an issue.

My beast is already fitted with a Holley carby and a six air cleaner so maybe it is just the extractors that is needed. Then again I wouldn't want to spend the money only to discover it does do the job I want.

Series landys were never built for speed. I have a stock S111 Land rover 6 cylinder with high speed gearing and drum brakes. It will do 100kph no probs but is happier around 95kph. It also stops without a problem.
A well maintained Land Rover will do exactly what it's designed for and that is to go anywhere in it's own good time
Have a look through this thread in Technical Chatter that I started when I did some changes to the exhaust of a SWB '71 2a 2.25, it may help.
Is modifying a series exhaust worthwhile
