    Land Rover Tyres

Does anyone know how the old measurements convert to new? Also when tyres are listed the old way they are more expensive. thanks W.

    6.50 x 16
    7.00 x 16
    7.10 x 16 and 7.50 x 16R

a 7.50x16 (for example) is 7.5" wide, 7.5" high at the sidewall, so about equivalent to a 185/100-16 if there were such a thing. Diameter of a 7.50 is 7.5+7.5+16" = 31 (in theory), however in practice, 7.50x16s are closer to 32" (especially offroad tyres).

Imperial sizes are getting hard to find these days. They may not be especially expensive, but you may not get much choice.

A 235/85-16 is the closest actual size to a 7.50, but note it is wider.

Wow, some of the tyre prices are high .. I just bought some (5) 31x10.5xR16's for $195.00 balanced and fitted for my 74 LWB. Just need to clean the rims up a bit now.. (Should have done them before the fitting, but needed it on the road, a.s.a.p. So will be a little harder to do with the tyres on.. Ah well)

For the 88" im looking for something to lighten up the steering. Something more skinny. lower profile. Allrounders or more aggressive. And the speedo is very wrong with the 235/85 R16 on. Do you have a suggestion of a tyre to look at. Ive got tyre brain fog from looking. W

Hey wallydog no experience with lower profile on a series but at the moment I run goodyear wrangler 7.50 x r16 with atr tread on the front and steering is good with 40+psi i have heard of people running up to 60 psi to make on road steering light but I dont go past 45 on the rear I have dunlop road gripper f in the AT tread again 7.5 x R16 no problems with my speedo its spot on by the gps. Both tyres are light truck the wranglers came from beaurepaires and the dunlops from aaa tyre factory at yennora. Both tyres are standard size for the series so should be ok with your speedo

Series 3 88 listed 6.00, 6.50, 7.00 and 7.50 x 16 tyres. To accommodate these there are two different speedos (actually a lot more, what with miles/kilometres, trip/no trip). So whether your speedo registers correctly will depend on whether the original fitting was 7.50 or the smaller sizes. If you look at your speedo, in fine print at the bottom is some writing. Mine, to suit 7.50, says "SNT 6209/25 860" . If my memory is correct, the 860 is the turns/km. If your speedo is in miles, the number will be 1.6 times that. If your speedo is intended for 6.00-7.00 x 16 tyres, then you can expect the numbers to be about 7% higher.

I seem to remember a post a while back suggesting that neither tyre size could be considered standard for S3 88 Landrovers delivered in Australia - they were about evenly split. All S3 109 Landrovers delivered in Australia were, I believe, fitted with 7.50x16 tyres.

    speedo

Mine has 940 as the last 3 digits.? Thats substantially more than Boogies 880 and JDNSW 860. Expecting more revolutions per kilometre id need a smaller tyre. But which one? 6.00 x 16 or 7.00 x 16? W
