gday all , clutch out. the pressure plate fingers are grooved slightly where the throwout bearing sits on the pressure plate. Is that normal wear n tear? The clutch plate has plenty of meat on it and is worn only about 2 to 3 thou off the max spec. I dont know if thats a lot or not? the rivetts are solid. pressure plate face is shiny flat and no scoring.
flywheel prob needs machining but ill get pics and put them up in the next post.
I also found a good couple of tablespoons of oil on the bottom of the housing where the rear main seal is. The rear main seal was supposed to changed just before i bought it. is it normal to leak a little bit? w
Attached are a few pics of the oil leak and clutch components. And flywheel. The flywheel has got some marks on it? Are they ok to reuse or should i get a clutch kit etc.
Is it ok to run the engine without the flywheel attached? W
Pics of pressure plate fingers. Are they ok to use? W.
G'day Wal,
* Don't run the engine without a flywheel - it is a balance mass and nasty things could happen if it runs too fast.
* The pressure plate looks fine to me, it just depends on whether you want to spend money on a new one. What does the pressure plate face look like?
* The flywheel looks to have been overheated a bit, probably from a slipping clutch but as long as it is flat it will be OK. Check it with a straight edge and a 0.002" feeler gauge. If there is any doubt get it ground.
* The crank seal looks like it might need to doing - run the engine as Wagoo suggests and see how much oil leaks out in 5 minutes. Definitely worth doing now if it leaks!
Cheers Charlie
Chazza, there is a pic of the pressure plate face a couple of posts back on this thread. I took a pic of a portion of the pressure plate face and a portion of the flywheel face.
This is puzzling as Im sure the former owner has replaced the rear main seal only 1 month ago. He is experienced and assures me the crank is in top cond around the seal as well. Can the seal be faulty? W
i replaced the flywheel and started engine. I ran the engine for a bit over 5 mins , got it warmed. No oil was seen to leak at the time or within 15 mins after. Should be right.
It might have been residual oil from the recent work done on engine? W
Im certain the flywheel isnt true , its got a few gouges there too. cant really see em in photos. because theres a worn lip in the flywheel I couldnt do a feeler gauge assessment. Theres raised edges in the centre area and outer area.
ill get it machined. ill reuse the pressure plate, and clutch plate and change the bearing. clutch plate has plenty of meat on it and in good cond. W
