    I have just realised that one advantage of a rusted-in-place relay, is that it gets rid of the movement

    Sounds like an interesting idea,any idea where I might get one?

    I knew I shouldn't have bothered cleaning the chassis up!

    Be wary of cheap repays - a mate fitted one and the shaft twisted while he was driving over a small log.

    sorry no idea ...

    but if yours is in good condition (or buy a new one) you could have a short small bore tube welded on it between two of the mounting holes and then cut in half so that you can run a bolt through it to clamp it

    Interesting idea, I might investigate that option, thanks

    Update;

    I cleaned up the back of the flange + plus the chassis where it bolts to - there was a build up of paint and stuff which may have been holding off a little, I also tightened to buggery the upper and lower arms plus the drop arm on the steering box. Between those things the steering is much better, very little play at the steering wheel, and it no longer steers like a boat!

    I'm off to the UK soonish - so whilst I'm there I might pick up new lower/upper arms plus a new drop arm... plus anything else that grabs my fancy!

    Thanks to all who commented, all good advice!
