Question Parts Help - Series 3 Oil Seal Housings

Recently when replacing the pinion seals on my 75 series 3, getting the old original "leather" seals was a bit difficult and required some leverage off the surrounding housing. The cast iron? was very brittle and chipped away in a variety of places.

Looking for the correct name and part numbers to replace. Have included some photos of the front diff housing and transfer input housing also. You can see the chip clearly, so I need the bolt on housings that the oil seal slots into, and I assume it has a bearing sitting behind it also.Front Diff Housing.jpgFront Transfer Case.jpg

Not sure if correct but transfer input housing part number #236541.

Appreciate any advice, as well as a recommended supplier.

    Thanks

    Hi Expedite,

I had a quick look in the S3 parts manual and it doesn't show that bit as a separate part. I know the bits you mean though as I have just changed the seals in both those on my S1. So I looked in the S1 parts manual and they are there as separate items. The diff one is called a "Retainer for oil seal" and is part no 236547. S2 parts manual also shows the same number. When I look for that part number on the John Craddocks site in the UK they have them but they are supposedly only used up to 1968 so I am not certain they are exactly the same as in 1975. I would have to go and have a look at the diffs on my Series 3s which I can do for you tomorrow. Craddocks want 22 pounds for them but Dunsfolds have them for 10.

The one on the front output shaft of the transfer case is part no 236541 and appears to be available from any of the UK suppliers, Craddocks want 12 pounds odd for it. Dunsfolds want 19.

Either of them may be available from local suppliers as well, worth a ring around. Anybody wrecking a S3 may have them too but might want to sell the whole items rather than pull of the seal retaining housings for you.

Hope that helps a bit .
