    Barrel door lock removal

I've just bought some lock barrels in a set of 3 for the antiburst door lock type. There is one old barrel in a door but I can't get it out, do I need the old key or is there a trick to it? Also will the 3rd barrel work in the ignition?

Sorry, I think you need the key, although I think it is possible to drill them out carefully - go far enough just to get all the pins - look at the new ones to check. Its over ten years since I have done this! I don't think you can use the extra barrel in the ignition (I assume it has a steering lock?) - it is probably for a rear door.

Okay will try drilling it, it doesn't have a steering lock,
    Thanks,

It is possible that the ignition key barrel is the same if there is no steering lock - I have never worked on a S3 without one though, so I don't really know!

Hey Chomby, let us know how you get on with this. My S3 has the antiburst locks and they are keyed differently to the ignition, the locks are worn and loose and should be replaced. Where did you get the set of barrels from, and what was the cost?

Key cut services removed the old barrel and put the new one in for $20, Saves me making a mess of it. To actually get the locks to work properly I'm going to have to fiddle with the striker position I think cause once 'shut' the key won't turn, but if I shut the latch with the door open it works fine.

I've moved the striker positions outwards so that the doors latch properly and now they lock properly as well. The ignition barrel is the same as the door barrels so I have replaced that as well. I now have side windows lockable and all barrels working with one key. Now I just need the back sliding window lock. The ignition barrel was removed by removing the shroud and turning the key backwards, then i pushed a very small screwdriver into the hole underneath to release the pin and pull the barrel out. Thanks for all your help guys, total cost was $22 for barrels/keys in a set, $20 for barrel removal for the key I didn't have.
