    Source for shackles?

    Hey all,

I'm looking at buying some new shackles and chassis bushes, can anyone recommend a good source?

    Thanks,
    Ash

    Hi Ash,

I recall Gary CLR had some, do a google search and you should find his details.

From where you are All 4 x four or Land Vehicle Spares or probably any other of the usual suppliers. If you want to save a bit of money, with the current exchange rate, direct from one of the UK suppliers would probably be cheapest.

There is a guy who sells on ebay and a set of 4 bushes with bolts and nuts is about $10AU from the UK. He deducts VAT correctly and the parts were here in less than 5 days. DLS landrover spares I think. Not sure about shackles. I have a full set of ex mil ones available for sale if they are any good.

Ash - try this link below, its where I got mine. - $70 for the 12.
Look at the pins too (bolts) if they're worn, and they probably are, I'd change them too to stop the movement.
(I fould the bolts were much cheaper (abt 1/2) from rover parts Sestapool Vic.)
Of course finding the gear is the easy bit!

That workshop manual rubbish in the about striking the old ones out with a drift wont work unless they're brand new. Chances are they're rusted solid.
You can use use a press on the springs, or a hydraulic porta-pack like I did, but those in those 4 in the chassis are something else.
I ended up using a hacksaw with 2 blades in upside down and cutting out a wedge (careful not to go too deep) and then striking it with a drift (old socket) easy!
cleaned up all the eyes with a wire weel on a drill, smeared with 'never seize' and pressed back in. - Good for another 32 years....
