G'day All,
I would have at a guess, and say PCV i.e. anti-pollution gear that has been removed, cheers Dennis![]()
Hello again from Brisbane.
Still getting around the engine bay of my S3 2.25L petrol and was wondering what/why the blocked off part on the carburettor/inlet manifold is doing/is there?
I am sure it is there for a good reason.....
Cheers,

I agree - that is where the tube in that place on my carby goes.
The anti-pollution device. A tube goes from that around the front of the engine to the oil filler.
I have gone out and taken some pictures - if they come out OK I'll post them.
edit: Pictures.
The first one is the carby end of it - you sorta see the tube coming out of the carby and up to the anti-pollution/emission device and then a tube coming from that towards the front of the engine (towards me).
The second picture is of the tube, having come around the front of the engine, connecting to the oil filler tube.
The third picture is from further back and sorta shows the tube (under and in front of the fuel filter) as it joins the oil filler.

Hello again from Brisbane.
Thanks for coming back on that again - photos would be appreciated if not too much trouble.
You will have to pardon my naivety on quite a few aspects of my truck's mechanicals. I haven't had this particular unit for all that long and still getting to know its various bits and pieces - the last 4 cylinder petrol Land Rover I that I owned was back in 1975.
I don't really know the history of the vehicle other than that it was assembled in September 1975 by Leyland in Sydney. However, I suspect that the motor is not the original and either came from an older Land Rover or is made of composites from it's original 1975 motor and another earlier one. The radiator is off an earlier model.
So, while it is blanked off at the carburettor/manifold there may well be no corresponding block off on the oil filter or any other pollution control kit - I will have a look again tomorrow in daylight. Had the same issue with heater hoses (another post) where the connections were not on the motor.
Cheers,
No worries.
If any other problems just sing out. There is usually someone around who has been in the same position.
Hello again.
As I suspected, the motor in my truck does not seem to have any connection point for the pollution control hose on the oil filler. Must have pre-dated that piece of kit.
If 1975 models had some pollution control gear on them (my XB Falcon ute did and it was April 1975 built), I suppose the issue arises of possibly having to get the equivalent fitted for registration when I finally get around to it?
Cheers,
