if the wire is green with black trace? cant quite see properly in photo. that colour was used for fuel gauge sender.
my only thoughts on the termination are that the winding is 'some' kind of variable resistance to earth indicating it fed a gauge
Hello all,
i am looking for a little advice to establish some of the wiring on my 1980 Ex military S3.
The car is has a holden 202 motor and bosch electronic ignition and LPG fitted - so there appear to have been several fumblings with the wiring over the years. i have bought the car as a non runner so am in the process of trying to work out if everything is going where it should.
I followed a green wire that departed the loom close to the clutch master cylinder and seemed to disappear over the fuel tank on the drivers side. When i pulled it, it seemed to be loose and after removing a couple of feet of wire a strange termination came with the end

I can't seem to find anything like this on a wiring diagram and it does not look original anyway.
Any clues to the function or location of where this should be returned to?

I got some more time to play and the wire originates from a supply on the heater control (not sure if it is switched or not). It then goes through a red light on the dash panel before heading of and terminating in the springy thingy.
Conveniently the red light is not marked. So could be choke, hand brake - maybe a crude attempt at indicating 4x4. I might just connect it to the brake shuttle valve if I ever get that going.
Odds on it is the Hand Brake on warning light switch (come to pieces).
Thanks toad, that would be a likely use for that switch, Mathernet did say ' I followed a green wire that departed the loom close to the clutch master cylinder and seemed to disappear over the fuel tank on the drivers side. '
Is his hand brake still in the original spot? have a look around for the bracket the switch parts fit into.
The handbrake is in the same place - It was a military ceremonial conversion so would have had different park brake method for some time. I hear of cable operated disk brakes, but mine still has a hydraulic lock in the the rear brake line (which is why i cant get the brakes bled - another story yet to be aired!)
Would this have had a warning light on the hand brake? was that a common mod. A friend has suggested it could have been something on the old trimatic gear box? It sounds as if what ever it was is no longer there.
regards
Chris
