Any ideas whether there is a difference between the size - particularly the height between the Series III 2.25 diesel and other maybe petrol or different Series vehicles?

Now if this was the correct fitting oil bath air cleaner am I missing any parts from what you can see in the photos?

What sort of maintenance do these units require? I am used to tractor and other earth moving equipment air filters and I thought there might be a paper air filter inside the canister - apparently not ... hey!

Bloody Murphy ... I went out to the Land Rover after work so I could get something simple and quick done on it before it is dark - did not hear someone go "gotcha" when I was walking towards the diesel either

    Radiator differences Series III 1976

    Hello All,

The front part of Baldrick's radiator shroud has some rust in the sheet metal so I cut it out. Before I investigated treating the area and getting it re-skinned I had a look at my spare part collection to see if my other radiator shrouds were in any better condition. Baldrick was made 5/76 while the spare was made 12/76. Did the shape change over 1976 or has the December one been modified? Where the 5/76 has a solid sheet metal face the 12/76 has a big slot cut out of it - was this done by the manufacturer? Or was this a difference between a petrol engine and a diesel engine for radiator shrouds?

The December one has also been fitted with an electric fan what advantage would this have over the mechanical fan?

Is there any difference in size and cores between a Series III 2.25 litre petrol and the 2.25 litre diesel radiator or did they share the same radiator?

    Kind Regards
    Lionel

The electrical fans reduce the load on the front of the engine and net a slight increase in power/economy if you remove the main fan.

nope, they're interchangeable. There is an "arid" conditions radiator that is thicker and takes up the full depth of the tanks. Ive seen both types of radiator on both types of engine.

    G'day Blknight,

Thanks again Dave for answering my questions - cheers
Was the change to the bottom of the radiator panel from a solid metal face to the big slot a factory change or has someone else modified it between the 0/76 and the 12/76?

    Kind Regards

    Pictures and words

    Hello Blknight & others,

If you scroll down on this thread there are three pictures included about 4 messages down. I have put the photos back up with this message and I have highlighted the bits I am trying to identify with a red rectangle.

The 1st one shows where I cut the rust out of the face of Baldrick's lower front of the radiator mounting panel built in 5/76. The other two are front and back photos of the spare built in 12/76 The solid face that Baldrick developed rust in seems to have been superseded by a steel frame and an empty slot which is open to airflow through that area instead. It looks like it has been manufactured that way as all the edges are neat. Well apart from where it has been bumped and bent over time. It has the Series III manufacturer’s plate and the plastic Series III grille fitted.

Maybe someone realised that how they manufactured that part of the radiator shroud back in May 1976 was only asking for trouble as it is double skinned and has a gap in between the metal frame and the sheet metal which mud and crud builds up in; then gets nice and wet and causes rust to form?

Has anyone else have a similar radiator shroud that is open like the red rectangle area in the second and third photos?

    Kind Regards
    Lionel

I think someone must have modified it. I am no expert but I have never seen a hole like that one on any Land Rover,

    Cheers Charlie

Thats an after market mod.... Probably done to allow access to bolts and/or in a vain attempt to get extra airflow.

(bit more patients needed on my side, the mobile internets a touch slow up here so the photos werent loading)
