Salisbury diffs and series III 88"

    Question?

Did ANY series III 88" CKD in Australia come with Salisbury diff's?

    No

The prop shaft is too short, but some people have retrofitted them with difficulty!

drive line vibration will be a killer but I've done it... Kermit was given away with a Sals in the back, the propshaft is magnificently short, not much more than the flanges, slip joint and the unis. A bitch to balance and with phasing problems along with the unis running near their limits. (I didnt do it with later model wide angle flanges and unis)

A better solution is a DC shaft or a double CV shaft.

Would it be better to use a DC prop or to move the rear axle backwards a couple of inches so that the standard prop can be used? Also while moving could move the spring hangers out from under the chassis rail so the axle doesn't need mods?

Could possibly be done, but I'm not sure it would be easier - modify the wheel arch in the bodywork (no problem if it has a tray!), probably need a crossmember at each end of the spring to take the twisting moment that outboard spring mounts would impose on the narrower chassis, depending where the new mounts fastened relative to the existing ones.

Is it already a SIII 88 with Rover six and Sals rear or are you planning the conversion yourselves?

If the latter you most definately want to treat the Rover six with the same modifications to the grill support panel as are done on the Holden conversions, this will keep the gearbox in the same position as usual.

For the Salisbury rear, you may want to consider rotating the pinion up slightly, either with wedges or by re-mounting the spring plates and then use a DC shaft.
