On my 6 there is also an adjustment that angles the shoes so you can make them sit 'flat', this may be wound in so the shoe is sitting at an angle only letting your drum to get partially on. Had this happen when I replaced my front shoes.

Yep, you would be right! but alas.... already fooled with them to try to get the new drum on. O well... I think I will just get another set of shoes for the front.

check the radius grind on the shoes,

put them on as far as they will go easily then turn them.

observe the shoes for the wear points and then sand it away. (do this with wet and dry in a bucket of clean water. Sand across the shoe)

Before you do that as they will probably give you a set the same as what you already have, make sure you have the shoes in the right positions. My drum actually took a bit of a tap with a mallet to get over the shoes. Drove it up and down the driveway 1km and checked the adjustment and they had to be adjusted out further. Did you take a pic of the old shoes in place before you dismantled them? Always handy.

Also try what Dave suggested sanding if you can't get it arranged so that it fits with not too much persuasion. I will see if i can get a pic of mine.
