I was wondering if anyone has fitted the later type electronic distributor into a stage 1

AFAIA there is no reason why you cant
Piece of cake, fit it with an electronic compatible coil and feed it 12 volts and you're away. You can replace the Lucas amplifier with a bosch one, thread here:

Oh and if it stops, you can carry spare parts, spare electronic dissy, or your old dissy complete with points coil.
Some early oil pump drives may vary from the electronic one, all drives are swappable, just need to change the drive gear assembly.
The distributor drive is different but that is hardly a stopper.
You would need a High energy coil like aMC717 Bosch, and probably best to buy a dizzy without the infamous Lucas module and fit a Bosch module as B utey recommends.

there is a kit that goes in place of it too that replaces the points which i put in my stage 1. coil is standard. the amplifier and pickup and everything is contained within the thingy that bolts down where the points are. really simple and easy
But you must understand that the "kits" are just an electronic set of points which do not increase the spark energy.
Their advantage is that they stop the points wear hassle once and for all.
But you must not attempt to put in a high energy electronic coil as you will blow the transistors in about 10 seconds. Ask me how I know! LOL
The later Lucas dizzy with amp, is a high energy electronic system which gives a fatter spark for easier starting etc.

Thanks to all with some very good information. I did a trial fit today and found that the lucas module must go because it hits on the back of the water pump. My rotor button is different so need to find a new one of those and it would be lovely if lucas put a timing mark on the dizzy just makes life harder. Oh well will have to have another go when I get back from China.
