Sound and look like an add on to me.
I'm confused (heck, I own a Landrover - I'm continually confused). I have a full set of coil spring mounts on my Series III Stage 1 (Isuzu). I know this vehicle was a cross-over for the defender but I haven't seen any reference in the part number books that would indicate these are standard. They are nicely installed but I'm thinking they must be someones addition. In particular it is impossible to remove the rear U bolts without grinding off the lower coil spring mount. Does anyone else have these fitted or can I assume they're an add-on?

Sound and look like an add on to me.

Looks an add on, Interesting way to get spring stiffness.
People used to do that to get extra load carrying capacity, or sometimes removing leaves from the pack to improve the ride by having a hybrid dual spring system. Not very successfull.
looks home made to me.
You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
Coil-over conversions seemed to be popular in the past, my Series 1 has coil-overs.

Thanks guys. This confirms my suspicions. It looks like someone has spent good money putting these in - it's a nice installation. But they're getting in the way so it's out with the angle grinder I'm afraid. I've had no complaints with the leaf springs so I'll clean them up and refit all the bushings and stay standard.
Cheers
