    Is my motor seized

    Hi all,

Just continuing to pull my series 3 apart and I thought I would try and turn the crank using a screwdriver as a lever and it won't move, does this mean my motor has seized? see pic

There's a whole spectrum of "seized' from "slightly stuck", "nipped up" to seriously seized, get a bigger hammer" to "the only way this'll move is by melting it down". Try a bigger lever first, then remove the spark plugs and drop a little oil into it. A screwdriver isn't in the big league of engine turning tools. Operating the starter could get it to move, too.

if you take the spark plugs out and squirt some oil down there it will create more lube. and there will be less compression making it easier to turn.
You will something longer and stronger then a screwdriver.
You could try giving the starter motor a quick hit too.

    Thanks Guys

Spark plugs are out, it's not in gear, and there is no wiring connected at this stage so I can't try the starter motor, I will try some oil down the plug holes and find a bigger lever.

    Cheers

you can just use a battery and jumper leads and give the starter a quick hit with them.

and its not really siezed untill you have so much leaverage on the crank dog nut that you snap the head off of the crank nut.

(you need an inch drive socket set for that)

lots of oil down the plug holes and filling it up to the tipy top of the rocker cover wit hthe cheapest engine oil/used engine oil/diesel then leaving it sit overnight is always a good thing.

    first, free the motor

Pull the starter motor off first as the pinion might be stuck against the ring gear.
Then do all the other suggestions if that wasn't the problem.
