    Floor sizes

I bought some of those fancy chequer plate flooring for my SIII and they don't fit! The supplier says they suit Series 2 and 3 but on comparing my SII floors they are quite different sizes to the SIII.

Does anyone know when they changed sizes?

Let me guess.. Your landy has a 6 cylinder chassis and the chequer plating is for a 4 cylinder chassis. Same problem I had with getting floor mats. They tell you it fits all Series II/IIA/3 Landies, but forget to tell you it's for the 4 Cylinder chassis. (And no where can I find mats for 6 Cylinder chassis )

I'm trying to fit them to what was originally a 4 cylinder diesel (SW. The floors are the same as the 4 cylinder petrol out in the paddock.

I have no trouble with mats fitting mine, from the same supplier too mind you

Floor sizes remained identical from start Series 2 to the end of Series 3. Except as noted that the six (and V8/Isuzu) are different.

By far the most common is the four cylinder, same petrol and diesel, although the fact that all Australian army Series 3 were sixes probably means Australia has a somewhat larger proportion of these, but they would still be a minority. And V8/Isuzu are rare.

If the flooring is close but does not fit, I would suspect simply sloppy manufacture.

I don't think it's sloppy manufacture John. When I say the floor is the same as the one from the spares Series 2 in the paddock I mean identical. It's meant to be laser cut and it looks spot on when compared to those floors. My floors are definitely bigger.

    Photos would help

My floor is the black one, and the gray one is from the old Series 2, a perfect match to the chequer plate.

So what floor do I have? This is a SWB SIII with a diesel originally in it I believe but I could be wrong. It had a Holden in it when I bought it.

Do I have a different Bulkhead?

Looking at your photos, I think it is clear that your floor plates are the different ones. The question is why? I do not believe they can have come that way from the factory, and I wonder if new floor plates have been made to fit after accident or rust repairs to the chassis have resulted in a non standard floor space to be filled? In particular, the edges of your floor plates seem to extend further beyond the bolt holes.

That's interesting, perhaps the chassis? Or maybe the bulkhead? On the passenger side there has definitely been some repairs to the bulkhead.

It's a substantial space though, 30mm at the top and a few mm either side depending on what you line up and a similar sized gap on the drivers side.

Any ideas where all that space is going?

My doors still fit and my seat box looks unaltered, what other possibilities apart from the bulkhead could there be?

I would say its got to be your gearbox cover as well, otherwise what would explain the extra width of your floor panels?

Another thought. The bolt holes look to be in similar spots, were your panels attached under the bulkhead, gearbox tunnel and seatbox?

My gearbox cover looks identical to my spare one, the floor attaches on top of bulkhead, gearbox panel and seatbox, the passenger floor is a tight fit... but it does fit and the other one leaves a substantial gap.

Anyone out there have any ideas what has been done to my car? What does a 6 cylinder floor look like
