The also made the stage one in a HCPU Version ( not for Oz ) and some 1 Ton models, very rare.

The ULR conversion included a modified bulkhead centre., unique to this type.

It had a single Stromberg WW twin choke Carb.

    Year of conversion 1975 1977...

Engine had a swept volume of 4416cc, and a 'square' dimensions of 88.9mm bore and 88.9mm stroke.

192bhp at 4,250rpm and 285ib ft of torque at 2,500rpm.

The engine was the 4.4 V8 from the old P76 that was no longer in production. It was a derivative of the ex-Buick 3.5 litre V8, that Leyland used in cars and the good old Range Rover.

In my experience the trayback was by far the most common configuration, followed by the station wagon. Hardtops also existed (all with side windows, but relatively rare). I don't think I have ever seen a ute tub on a Stage 1.

I agree with you there John.
I have seen a few stage ones with ute tubs though and I know there was one here at the local scrappie.
I know of one 1 tonne stage one which also has the ute tub either that or it is a hcpu that was imported but I think there were about a dozen that were sent to australia.
Just wondering if someone bought a lwb 1983 land rover with a 2.25 petrol which was an option was it still known as a stage one?

They made the Stage one in a standard pickup, with the HCPU body, but they also offered it as a HCPU 1 ton V8, saying that I think they also had a 1 Ton Truck cab.

Was it a one ton? It wasn't a Stage 1.
