    Series 3 Gearbox Numbers.....

Just wondering if there is any significance to the numbers and letter that is stamped onto a gearbox ??

I've recently overhauled a gearbox which has 94110190A stamped on it, the original gearbox which I'm removing has 90278229A stamped on it and is in my '76 Series 3 Dormobile.

I also want to fit the overdrive from the original box to the new one, are there any hidden horrors I should know about, or any special tools needed to complete this task ??

    Thanks in advance

The difference is that the overhauled gearbox comes from a home market 109" six cylinder. The original gearbox comes from an export market 88" four cylinder.

The suffixes are the same so internally they will be the same ratios etc.

They would have originally had different bellhousings, but after 40 years this may no longer be the case.

The Overdrive can be swapped, however check out the dog clutch gears to see if they are worn and need to be replaced.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Thanks Diana, the bellhousings are the same so in theory it should be an easy swap over then ??

I haven't had any problems with the overdrive and it isn't noisy, so is it a case of simply undo the bolts and pull it off then transfer it over after checking it over
