    S3 SWB sill panels

I am looking at purchasing a very nice SWB.
It is very tidy but is missing the sill panels.
Any idea of how much they would be please and where to source from.
Alternately I was thinking of getting hold of some steel sliders
    Any clues

    Good luck

    Hi,

I guess they were usually removed for a good reason - which is often because they have been knocked about and throwing them away was a quick and cheap fix. Some people like the look, although I am not among them.

Series 3 SWB trucks are fairly scarce now, most sold locally were LWB, and good second hand sills are likely to be even scarcer. You can always try around, but it may be quicker to check out the various UK parts suppliers.

    Cheers,

I just had a very quick look for interests sake. You'll be up for about 20 pounds per side plus freight from the UK.

    Thanks team
20 quid each doesn't sound too bad. Wonder if they come in the matching colour or just primed.
When I shut this down I'll go and have a look.

    Sounds good

    Hello again.

Sounds like importing new ones if they can be secured for GBP20 is the best option.

Freight on anything from the UK can be a mixed bag, especially for the size involved although that can vary widely.

Just be careful to check the total cost of shipment to Australia and that there are no hidden nasties involved before you commit - especially with air freight.

Back in July I checked the option of sending some Land Rover parts from Johannesburg to Brisbane weighing around 10kgs and worth about $250. Being at short notice it was suggested that Qantas Air Freight be used. It turned out that the freight charge was to be ~$250 door to door which was making the deal fairly marginal. However, and this was not disclosed at the time by the forwarder, there was also going to be an additional $92 service and release fee waiting at the Qantas airport depot on collection (that's right forget the door to door) - Qantas told me that during a separate inquiry of the process at the Brisbane end. There was a 48 hour grace period from when first notified of their arrival and a $40 daily storage fee after that. But that was not the end of it, they would also need clearance and GST assessment by Customs before they can be released. Still not there yet, because the shipment involves car parts Customs won't accept private paperwork and so you have to get the clearance and assessment processed by a specialised inwards clearance service firm. This service can cost between $150-$250 minimum regardless of the value of the parts. Needless to say, not an attractive proposition.............

I have imported heaps of small parts and a couple of larger items, including radiators and full seat set, without much fuss before and it might have just been air freight and a bad hair day. The Customs clearance bit is deadly serious and can't be avoided it seems - I went to the office and checked. However, it really pays to make sure before you commit to the purchase that the quoted freight cost does include everything from the point of departure to when they are in your hands.

    Cheers,
