    What Battery?

    Hello All Series 3 people,

None of my Series 3 utes with a 2.6 litre six cylinder motor ever came with a battery. Could someone with a 2.6 let me know the brand and product code of their battery please?

Rebus my ute with a 202 Holden has a dead Century N7OZZ CCA 600 RC 140 would this battery when replaced with a new one also be suitable for a 2.6 litre or do the Land Rovers need a higher crank battery to the 202 Holden?

    Kind Regards
    Lionel

    Does this match?

    Hello All,

I did a bit of digging and the same brand of battery manufacturer of Rebus's battery now recommends the following two alternatives for a Land Rover Series... It only says Petrol and does not split between the 2.25 litre four cylinder Petrol and the 2.6 litre six cylinder petrol - this is a wee bit dubious to me.

How does the battery manufacturer's specifications match up to what you are running for your Series 3 six cylinder 2.6 Litre petrol motors?

    Kind Regards
    Lionel

My series III has a Holden conversion, but will be going back to standard. At the moment it has an N70, but if the battery goes back to the original location, then I'm not sure if that will fit there.

I stuck a 800cca extra heavy duty 4x4 battery in my 186 S3. It definitely turns over now

    Hello Debruiser,

What are the other codes of the 800 CCA such as N70ZZ?

Does it just start the motor or spin the whole vehicle around

    Kind Regards

Can't remember the codes of the top of my head.... I will check this afternoon.

It mostly starts, if your in soft sand sometimes you ahve to be careful because the right hand wheels will bury and left wheels can't pull them out after it starts

I figured that for the little extra price hopefully it will last longer, because it's not straining as hard to supply the power I need.

I've used 640CCA batteries to crank my 4.5litre Landcruiser and they've lasted at least 4 years. I've got a 700CCA in there atm and I can't say it fires any quicker, its always fired first time, unless the battery is dead.
    Its 9.0:1 compression, so turning a 7:1 2.6 shouldn't be an issue.

In the last ten years I have had a good run out of CAT batteries.
Regular trickle charging extends their life too!

The N70 gives the battery size and the ZZ in the position of the +ve & -ve poles.
The rest comes down to CCA, manufacturer, battery type, personal preference, colour etc.

My Defender, SI, SII, SIII and SIIa all use an N70ZZ. I tend to go for a calcium (sealed battery) from a battery supplier (not SuperCheap) and usually get 4-5 years on the Fender then the battery passes to a Series for a few years. Best was 8 years.
Because some of my vehicles don't get used I charge them every few months and use a battery isolator to ensure nothing drains them down (or the kids leave something switched on !).
