Got to thank Babicat for this! Say hello to my 1976 S3 Cab Chassis

    Hi all

A massive thanks to Gav. Without his email at 5.10pm yesterday afternoon, I would have missed out on what I think is a really good S3 Cab Chassis. I rang the owner straight away and arranged a viewing at 7.30 last night.....i bought it at 7.35pm!

It is a 1976. The previous owner has done a heaps of work including full brake overhaul, new exhaust, and rewired under the bonnet. The good - zero rust in chassis, very very slight rust on firewall which will probably buff off with polish. The bad - holden 186 motor, but sounds very sweet and drives well. Car is currently unregistered, but won't take much to register.

Plans are just to tidy it up, maybe new door rubbers, bailey channels etc, new seat belts and re cover the dash. I might also look at removing the dents from the guards.

Here are the picture from ebay.

Will get more once I get it home today.

    Cheers

    Very straight SIII, good find!

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

    Hi all..

    Here are some more pictures

It arrived home yesterday afternoon on a tilt tray. I got it started but the brakes need adjustment as the car won't roll that well. That will be the first job tomorrow. The PO overhauled all the brakes, just did not bleed or adjust properly.

    The car is very clean.

My to do list is not that huge:

    1. New door tops including new bailey channels
    2. seat belts
    3. new rear window seals
    4. new sun visors
    5. new tyres and blast and powder coat wheels
    6. new seats
    7. side mirrors (will be using Defender ones)
    8. Service all fluids and tune up of engine
    9. oil leaks of course - salisbury pinion and gasket, sump gasket, tappet gasket
    10. general tidy inside (including the dash!), under the bonnet and see what a cut and polish will do to the paint.
    11. Also need to get jack and wheel brace. Would really like to get original that fits behind seats...any ideas here?

I can not find a colour code for the paint. So I am assuming it's Camino Gold.

Oh, and out of jealousy, I think my Defender has spat a slave cylinder!....

    Thanks heaps

The colour looks like Bahama Gold to me, and would make sense as yours is 2 years older than mine, pic shots can be deceiving, Mine is Comino Gold. We have the paint code for that. HH can match the colour if needed for Bahama Gold
Did PM you about the other items

I think we will may have lots of interesting weekends in the future

    Hello 86 Mud - Andrew,

What month in 1976 was your vehicle built?

It looks to be a twin to my diesel Baldrick which has a similar or exact aluminium tray on the back to your vehicle. Oh except like his name sake "Baldrick" is a bit rough looking around the edges and needs a respray - plus he is a bit smelly - being a diesel.

Did your vehicle come with drop sides for the tray? If not I can take some photographs of mine and post them up so you can see what they looked like.

Baldrick was built 5/76 and I did not get the headboard because one of the previous owners had a camper on the back which overhung the cabin and they took the headboard off. So my tray looks different to yours and I had proper tie rails fitted in addition to the perforated pretend tie holes that both our trays have.

Baldrick was based in Howard Queensland for a number of years and I was told the previous owners went around Australia a couple of times in him.

Do you know much of the history of your new vehicle?

    Kind Regards
    Lionel

    Hi Lionel

Mine is a July 1976 build. history is very cloudy. The person I bought it from only had it 6 months, and he bought it from an old guy who could not drive anymore.

Oh and I do have the dropsides for the tray. The tray is made by Alcan.
